18th Century French Verrio or Wall Cabinet
A late 18th century Louis XV style French Provençal verrio, or display cabinet made of solid walnut. A lovely pair of three dimensional carved lovebirds beneath a large chapeau de gendarme crown. Pierced scalloped apron with an urn of flowers in low relief flanked by two small dovetailed drawers. Door has the original glass panes and decorative iron escutcheon. Painted interior has three shelves. Waxed patina. Nice proportions, pegged construction. Pine as a secondary wood. All original. Typical of Provence, this vitrine was used for displaying glassware and is perfect for the display of small collectibles. Must be displayed on a wall, not as a tabletop cabinet. Restoration on legs. Minor loss of oak leaf carved detail surrounding the birds. Circa 1780-1800. 48"H x 11"D (13.5"D at crown) x 26"W (31.4"W at crown)
