19th Century Louis XV Style French Armoire or Wardrobe
An early 19th century Louis XV style French petite armoire, or wardrobe, from the Loire Valley. Made of solid cherry with scroll carving on the door panels and simple circular carved details at the top and on the apron. Original iron hardware and working lock and key. Interior is 20" deep and has one new shelf. The inside opening is 49" high by 46" wide. Heavy and well-crafted with mortise and tenon joints and pegged construction. Chestnut as a secondary wood. Waxed patina. This short armoire was typically used in the servants quarters, where the ceiling was lower on the upper floor. Previously used as media cabinet to hide a television and patched on back where a plank had been removed. Right door is slightly warped, but able to be closed and locked. Circa 1800-1820.
