19th Century Dutch Genre Painting of a Kitchen Maid
A beautiful 19th Century genre painting in the Dutch style, clearly influenced by Vermeer, with light pouring in from an upper window. Depicting a kitchen maid preparing vegetable on a farm table. Beautiful depiction of various pots, bowls, pitchers and large pottery storage vessels typical of the time. Warm coloring, with touches of red in her dress and the potted geranium on the window ledge. Large purple and green cabbage in the baskets in the foreground and bright orange carrots on the table. Signed lower right. Auction lot number and tag on back with name of artist J. W. Mollinger.
Oil on canvas, presented in a later gold tone frame. Canvas in good condition, professionally restored in the 1980s. Minor repairs and touch-up to frame. Circa 1880-1900.
